Stop Hanging Out With People That Suck

Do you have toxins in your life? I’m not talking about the bleach  you use to clean your counters. I’m talking about the friend or family member that you talk to everyday who always see the glass as half-empty. Or always just trying to “keep it real?”  I love it when people would say that to me, as if I already don’t know what is real in my life, but thank you for point it out again.

When you hang out with the toxic people who always want to bring you down, prove you wrong and complain about EVERYTHING, your attitude changes and will start to see things similar to them. Now I know if your spouse isn’t positive, you have no choice but to hang out with them, but I think that if you lead by example, eventually they will get sick of it and stop complaining or they will start to think more positively too.  Remember, you’re only as good as the people you hang out with.  So if the 5  people closest to you, that you with are negative people, you gotta start creating or finding better relationships.

Once you find that you are hanging out with people who have a more positive outlook and you are hanging out with them consistently, you will become more positive yourself.  It took me a really long time to see that. I was a very negative person and I was mad at life.  I felt my parents chose their religion over me and I was just upset at the world and I blamed everyone else for my actions, my thoughts and how I felt.  After hitting a really low time, I knew something had to change.  I look at the environment I was in and I was drinking all the time (just leaving college), I was going out 5-7 nights a week and I was so lonely and sad.

I was online one day and on Facebook there was an ad that talked about being positive. Ever since I researched that blog, I have started looking for positive people and trying to keep my life as positive as possible.  Throughout our apartment I have positive affirmations and quotes to help me feel good (and to nudge Chad in the right direction ;P).  I find that I do not have a lot of positive people who live super close to me that I hang out on a regular basis with, so I listen to people like Randy Gage, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Jim Rohn and Dani Johnson to keep me in the right mindset.

Questions to ask about a person who is in your life:

  • Do you feel uplifted when you leave from talking or chatting with them online?
  • Do you want to spend more time with them because they make you feel good?
  • Are you motivated to want to be better after you talk to them?
If you answer yes to all of these questions then they are a great motivator and positive influence in your life. If you answer no to any of them, you should limit your association with them while you are in the beginning stages of creating a more positive life for you, your family or your kids.

It is especially important with weight loss because if you’re around someone who is telling you that you won’t stick with it or that you can’t do it. You’ll eventually believe that person and your self-talk will tell yourself that you cant’ do it.  Choose your friends and acquaintances very wisely because eventually your thoughts will only be as good as theirs.

Recipe of the Week – Pork Chops with Dijon Herb Sauce

This is amazing! I made it for dinner last night and I was pleasantly surprised. I added a little garlic because I love it and instead of using salt, I used Mrs. Dash Regular Seasonings. It was truly delicious!  I found it on skinnytaste.com, go checkout some of their other great recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp butter
  • 4 pork chops (22 oz with bone, fat removed), 1 inch thick, trim all visible fat
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • fresh ground pepper
  • 3 tbsp chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup fat free chicken stock
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp chopped, fresh herbs like parsley, chives, tarragon

Directions:

In a large frying pan heat the butter over moderately low heat. Season pork with salt (I used Mrs. Dash) and pepper.

Raise heat to medium and add the chops to the pan and sauté for 7 minutes. Turn and cook until chops are browned and done to medium, about 7-8 minutes longer. Remove the chops and put in a warm spot.

Add the onion to the pan and cook, stirring, until soft, about 3 minutes. Add the stock and boil until it reduces to 1/2 cup, about 3 minutes. Stir in the mustard, herbs, and 1/8 tsp pepper. Put the chops on a platter and pour the sauce over the meat.

Servings: 4 • Serving Size: 1 chop • Old Points: 4 pts • Points+: 4 pts
Calories: 166.5 • Fat: 9.2 g • Carb: 2.6 g • Fiber: 0.2 g • Protein: 16.4 g

I would love to hear what you think about this recipe?

Own Your Choices — Your Blame Game Is Getting Old

So you choose to sit on the couch instead of doing squats or going for a walk?  So you choose the twinkie over the apple?  Is it because you had a rough day?  Or your self-talk is saying its okay?

I remember creating excuses for myself.  Someone would piss me off and I would reach for the ice cream, cookies or whatever because of what they “said” or “did.” Seriously?  I am letting someone else annoy me enough for me to ruin my lifestyle change.  Either I am in or out! That goes for you too. No matter how much you let someone upset you or irritate you, in the end your choices are exactly that.  They are your choices.  That other person won’t care if you eat that bon bon while sitting on the couch washing it down with that big soda pop.

Your excuse isn’t going to get you closer to your weight loss goals or bettering yourself.  Only when you accept 100% responsibility for what you are doing in your life will you realize that you can accomplish anything and do it if you put your mind to it.  It baffles me how we always point the finger at other people and say they are the reason we do things.   The reality is that you are your own person. You create your life and you make your choices.  It’s time for you to take control of your life and start living for yourself.  If you want to lose weight research it, consult with your doctor and start trying. Excuses are getting old, so just stop.

Own your choices, own your life.

Are You The Anchor or the Engine?

So I have been on this personal development kick.  I feel like I cannot help people lose weight and be better if I’m not striving to be the best I can be.  Listening to a CD, something really hit home for me.  He was talking about if you are an anchor (dragging people down) or the engine (fueling and motivating people to move harder, be better, etc).  I really thought about it and in some ways, I feel like I am the engine.  I can help motivate you and move you to be what you want to be, but I realized in other areas I need to focus on being the engine.

Today, I want you to take 5 minutes to really just sit and think about what you are doing.

Ask yourself:

  • Are you a positive motivation to your family, friends and workmates?
  • Do you fuel them and make them leave smiling?
  • Or do you complain all day every day and then blame everyone else for everything that happens to you?
  • Do you end your smiling because you were able to make someone smile?
  • Do you end your day grumpy because “everyone else” got on your nerves?

He really went in to great detail about things I was doing wrong and it is so true! I felt like he was talking to me.  I was helping people and my family, but  I wasn’t truly grateful and appreciative of the people around me and the things I have.  Also, after listening to The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy, it really opened up my eyes to being grateful, more productive and truly appreciating the goals I am setting out myself.  He has some great tools/PDFs  for me to fill out that were completely free.  Here they are:

The Gratitude Assessment - I have now started keeping a gratitude journal to remind me what I am thankful for each day.  I find when I write down a few things before bed, I wake up more pleasant and happy.

Core Values Assessment – This is what really hit home with me.  I realized that I was spending a lot of time with toxic people and I needed to clear and limit my time with those people.

Life Assessment – Another one that really opened my mind. If you do any of these, please do this one.  It is truly eye opening for your life. I know after I did this, it made me want to be better for myself and for my kids.  They deserve more than what I was putting out.

Habit Assessment – What are your habits? Are you using your time wisely?  This helped me to design a goal, show me what I’m doing good and then showing me what I needed to eliminate

Media Influences - This opened my eyes that I watched way too much TV. And I didn’t spend enough time listening to uplifting things and motivational things to help me.

Goal Designing – If you have a hard time thinking up goals, setting them and following through, this would be great for you.

I added these to a binder and Chad and I filled them out one night together. It was truly eye opening and I hope it is the same for you.  My goal is to  be the engine, never holding or pulling someone down, like an anchor, but fueling and energizing them.  I bought the audio version of this book and it makes me want to be a better person. It makes me want to help people become better.

Tell me, are you going to be the anchor or the engine?

Please share this, if any of it resonated with you. Maybe someone you know needs to hear it today :) .

My 90 Day Body By Vi Challenge Results w/ Pictures

90 Days have come and gone and I must say, I was disappointed with my numbers until I saw my pictures.  I lost 19lbs, gained 5lbs of muscle, lost 3 inches around my waist, 2 inches around my hips and 1 1/2 inches on each arm.

Let me say this, I am nowhere near where I want to be. I have about 20 more pounds to go and a lot of toning to do BUT even with me doing half of what I was supposed to this 90 Day Challenge, I had really great results for my body type.  I have been taking my Body By Vi Shakes and I am very proud of what I ended this 90 Day Challenge.  Now I am going to be honest, I lost that weight with a lot of cheat days but I did work out 2-3x a time (30-60 minutes of cardio). So even with some days of king size crunch bars and a few beers here and there, I am please with these results.

The first one is the very first one from me getting started on the Vi-shakes and the last one is one I took this morning. Here are my pictures:

I feel like a new person and I’m not even where i want to be. I fit in to jeans I haven’t worn since college and I am getting the nutrients I need.  I realized why I wasn’t losing weight counting calories and its because I wasn’t getting the nutrients that my body was aching for.  If you want to know more about what is in a Vi protein shake, check out this video by clicking here.

I also want you to know that this 90 days was more about changing our eating habits too. We have started creating healthier habits for our kids and incorporating the shakes and healthy foods in to their lives too and that was what this 90 Day Challenge is about.  I am just thankful that someone who was as lazy as I was have been able to step up to the plate and show my kids what health is supposed to look like.  We aren’t there yet, but by golly, we are going to get there!

Remember, you are only as good as you and your body feel. If you are always tired,  complaining and stressed that is what your body is going to be like. Is it time for you to make that change? Sometimes you need that click to really move.

If you want more information, please contact me or click the link below and I would be more than happy to give you more information on our products.   If you want to promote our challenge and help other people feel good, like I do and like I am, please give me a call at 262-501-2088 and I would be thrilled to help you get started. You’re Not Ready, It’s Obvious

I remember having one of my friends ask me about the shakes and how much they cost.  When she said they were too expensive, at that moment I knew she wasn’t ready. When I didn’t want to do something I would make excuses or dodge it.

When you are ready to start that business, lose weight, create that life you will find a way. With Visalus and my weight loss, I signed up last year and it didn’t click for me.  I would talk the talk, but I was not walking the walk and it took me having my AHA moment and writing down my why for me to get motivated.  I was reading a self-help and I remember reading that I was failing because I was not trying.  I could play it safe and do what I was normally doing and living the social norm that was comfortable for us, but I was/am not satisfied with that.   Since I wasn’t satisfied and I wasn’t attempting to create my dreams, I was failing.  How could I teach my kids to go for their dreams? How can I tell them they can be anything they want if I’m not going after what I want?  I would sound like a hypocrite.

Don’t let that voice inside your tell continue to tell that you’re not ready.  Stop being afraid! I mean, seriously, do you know how awesome you are?  I cannot lose weight for you, I cannot create that business that you want or create the life that you want.  No matter how much I want to jump through this computer screen and shake some sense in to you, I cannot. What I can do is tell you that if you want to be ready, you will be ready.  If you believe you can lose weight and need help, I am here.  If you want to create a business for you, that would create residual income and give you the ability to travel, live and create your dreams, I am here too.  I cannot force you to do it, especially if you aren’t ready.

Remember, the only person holding you back is you and your self-talk.  What are you going to tell yourself today?

Why I Chose ViSalus and the Body By Vi Challenge

When I decided to give 100% to Visalus I had to determine my reasons why I wanted to work with a direct sales company.  I have never been the 9-5 person, I don’t like people telling me where to go, what to do and when to take my lunch. That’s just not what my life is made for.  It took me a long time of self-search, self-talk, and self-help books to get me to where I am today.  I am not where I want to be, but because I have taken over my life and changed my actions I am getting there.

My friend Jennifer introduced me to this company, she told me I would love it so I signed up last year (2011) and I did love it, but I wasn’t where I was supposed to be yet.  I signed up and I gave up on myself.  I took the shakes, lost weight, had more energy and whatever needed to click hadn’t clicked yet so I stopped promoting and stopped taking the shake mix.  I got to my highest weight ever last summer and I wouldn’t even take my kids to the park, I didn’t even want to go out with friends because all of my friends were thinner and prettier.  Want to know what changed me? Having no energy.  I was honestly sick and tire of being sick and tired. November of last year I said I had to make a change.  With Christmas around the corner I couldn’t afford to buy extra shake mix so Chad and I made the goals to start in January and we really rocked it.  The month of February Chad lost 17.5lbs and on my challenge I went from 163 to 145 and I gained muscle and lost body fat. I’ll post my 90 Day Challenge pictures in 1 1/2 weeks when my challenge is up.

Knowing that I found a product that worked for both of us helped to push me to promote more and more. Also, weight loss products will NEVER go out of business, so I know as long as people need to lose weight and there are places like McDonald’s and Pizza Huts on this earth, I will always have someone to help take charge of their life. And finding my why which is staying home with my kids and creating residual income that can be signed over to them if something happens to me, made it even better.  Sometimes it is about the business and helping you make money, but the team cares about your well being and what you need.  I feel so blessed!

What is in a Visalus Protein Shake?

I get that question a lot about what is in the Visalus Shakes and I wanted to create a post I could refer people back to, so you could see for yourself.  Check out all the nutrients you are getting when you take one Visalus shake.

As you can see there are so many great things in the shakes for you and for moms who are pregnant or breastfeeding they are safe to take as well.  I am NOT a doctor, but I did take them while I was pregnant and breastfeeding and I did not have any side effects.  Always consult your doctor before starting anything, but I am sharing my personal story.

Another great video that goes in to more detail is on the Lifestyle for Health YouTube page.  This is a great detailed oriented video that will help you understand the shakes better.  You can also get the Visalus Shake Ingredient List to see what is in the shakes.

And I know it can be hard to get motivated, so if you need some motivation or a pep talk to get you going with your workout and weight loss journey check out my No More Excuses blog.

If you have questions or you want to join the challenge, please feel free to give me a call at 262-372-2140 or click on the join the challenge button below. Have a great day!

You Can Be The Solution Or The Problem

You know as I have been thinking about bettering myself and being the best for my family, I realize that before I started taking better care of myself, eating healthier and doing more things with my kids, that I was the problem.

So many of us complain about being tired, not having enough time, money or whatever other excuse we use and I know I used a lot.  In reality,  I used to find money to get that rock star energy drink or chocolate bar. Some of us find money to buy soda, cigarettes or whatever else your guilty pleasure is. I remember we would buy french fries for Cameron because he would say he wanted them.  My 2 year old would tell me that he wanted french fries.   Now, I’m not saying we never have them because they are delicious  and we splurge. What I am saying is, how could I be a good parent to my kids if I am eating processed foods every day?  How can I teach them about fruits, veggies, or other amazingly healthy foods if I’m not being the example?

I was the problem.  I wasn’t showing my kids healthy eating habits. I wasn’t giving our body the healthy nutrients they needed. I’ll keep this blogs short because I know you get what I’m saying.  Sometimes you have to realize that you need to stop creating the problem and you need to start being the solution.  Which one will you try to be?
