So many of us talk down to ourselves, some people even talk down to their kids. I have heard parents shoot down kids dreams telling them, “they can’t do that.” My parents
told me I couldn’t do it. My mom lives such a fear based life and I made sure I would be different from that. I know, I know, the world is a scary place and blah blah blah. But it is only scary if you choose to look at it that way. You wanna know why? Because the optimist will tell you its a beautiful place. There are gorgeous oceans, mountains, people. One of the most beautiful moments to me was giving birth to my children. Someone might say that is disgusting, but to know that I created these amazing little people with awesome personalities still brings tears to my eyes.
My point is that life is what you make of it. If you are going to think of the glass half empty, if you are going think woe is me and nothing ever goes right, guess what? Nothing will ever go right. I have a guy friend who complains about never having a girlfriend, of feeling sad a lot and not knowing what to do. I tell him to have confidence, to be happy and if he can’t be happy to fake it until he makes it. He says he tries and he doesn’t know what he’s doing wrong. I’m sorry but I would not want to be with someone who lacks confidence and happiness. This is another example of negativity affecting your life.
Wouldn’t you want to be surrounded by people who are positive? People who believe in you? People who want to be around you? Change your attitude. You deserve more for yourself, for your life and for your family than to be negative and grumpy all the time. I know I do.
Things that will help you be more positive:
- Write affirmations. Write affirmations and put them in places that you see them daily. I used to hide some in my purse so I would find random positive thoughts when I would go to look for things. I also have positive affirmations on my bathroom mirror and on my refrigerator handle.
- When you hear yourself say something negative, acknowledge and then answer that negative thought with a positive thought. Being aware of your thought processes will help you control your thoughts more.
- Surround yourself with positive people and people you admire. I found that when I was negative, I was surrounded by negative people. Now that I am more positive and passionate about things, drama finds me less and the people that want drama or negativity have stopped talking to me. Drama won’t go away 100%, but it has gone done so much.
- Wake up and tell yourself things that you are thankful for. Instead of waking up grumpy, groggy or whatever. Tell yourself why you are thankful for today. So many peoples lives are cut short and we sit here and complain about things that barely matter. Tell yourself why you are happy to be alive.
Those are just a few things I do to refocus myself when I have a bad day and things I do to keep myself positive. I hope these tips will help you smile just one more time today
